Within the Black community, tarot has emerged as a powerful means of healing and self-discovery, offering a restorative practice rooted in introspection and ancestral connection.

By embracing tarot, Black folx can reclaim a spiritual tool that fosters deep understanding, resilience, and empowerment. It’s a space to pause, connect with intuition, and navigate life’s challenges with renewed perspective.

Our mission is to make this transformative practice accessible to all. By offering free esoteric healing services like tarot, we aim to introduce a restorative practice that uplifts the community, honors Black traditions, and creates pathways for healing.

The Black Altar is black woman led. In working with and for black, indigenous, people of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, and similarly identified communities in King County, The Black Altar acknowledges that white supremacy and settler-colonialism are enduring systems of hierarchy, division, and exploitation. These systems create significant inequities in our communities, but they do not operate in isolation. Oppression is mutually constructed based on categories including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, ethnicity, indigeneity, social class, disability, religion, and immigration status. Just as all forms of inequality are interconnected, so are all forms of justice. Working for racial justice, indigenous sovereignty, economic justice, and all forms of social justice are part of the core mission of the The Black Altar.

The Black Altar works on the unceded, traditional land of the Coast Salish Peoples, specifically the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People, original stewards of the land, past and present. We honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe. We are aware that this land was taken from indigenous peoples violently – without agreement, consideration, or compensation. We acknowledge our responsibility to protect the natural environment.

To effectively support all people within the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community, The Black Altar commits to proactively working in solidarity against white supremacy, settler-colonialism, xenophobia, ableism, capitalist exploitation, religious bigotry, and all forms of cis-heteropatriarchy.
